On our next auction of Indonesian paintings we will sell a drawing by Willem Gerard Hofker (1902-1981). It is a portrait of Ni Asoeg.

This drawing has a few features which makes it quite special:
1. Hofker made lithographs after this drawing. They are mirrored to this original. The fact that he made these lithographs is in my opinion a sign that the artist considered this piece as one of his better drawings.

2. The condition: mint! No damage, no stains or severe browning and not glued to cardboard (which is unfortunately often the case).
3. The provenance: bought by H.C. Molster in 1949 in Amsterdam. He was broker in coffee and tea. In 1955 Mr. Molster asked Hofker to make a drawing of his office at the Heerengracht 55 in Amsterdam. This drawing will also be at auction in May 2013.
