Indonesian Art

For years already, we have been specializing in auctioning paintings from the former Dutch East Indies. We are a global player in this area and the number one in Europe.

If you want to have your work(s) valuated, I would like to receive the dimensions (within the frame) as well as some photographs. These can be sent to rene@zeeuwsveilinghuis.nl or via Whatsapp (0031(0)6-51 41 43 51). Based on the photographs, you will receive a preliminary estimate.

For more exclusive works, a home visit is possible. You are also welcome at our offices in Middelburg and Amsterdam (by appointment only).

Examples of artists we are always interested in:
Willem Gerard Hofker, Basoeki Abdullah, Rudolf Bonnet, Raden Saleh, Romualdo Locatelli, Hendra Gunawan, Gerard Pieter Adolfs, Walter Spies, Adrien Jean Le Mayeur de Merpres, Theo Meier, Pieter Ouborg, Arie Smit, Lee Man Fong, Willem Imandt, Auke Sonnega, Isaac Israëls, Willem Dooyewaard, S. Highlights

New book Rudolf Bonnet

Zeeuws Veilinghuis will re-publish the book ‘Rudolf Bonnet, een zondagskind’. The original book, written by Dr. H. de Roever – Bonnet and published in 1993, has always been the standard work about this artist. However, it had a limited reach as it was only published in Dutch. The new book will be in English and therefore reach a much more international audience. In addition, it will contain more photos and the design will be of higher level.

Over the last 10 years, Zeeuws Veilinghuis has auctioned ca. 140 works by Rudolf Bonnet, including one of no less than € 380.000 (hammer price). A selection of these works will be displayed in the book. Important pieces from museums and private collections will also be included. If you have a top work by Bonnet, it can still be added.

Exhibition Lee Man Fong

In October 2018, we organized the exhibition ‘Lee Man Fong, back in the Netherlands after seventy years’.

The exhibition was opened by the Ambassador of Indonesia, His Excellency I Gusti Agung Wesaka Puja.

The Chinese-Indonesian artist Lee Man Fong (1913 – 1988, also known as Lee Man Fung) is well known in Southeast Asia. In the Netherlands, however, many have never heard of him, although he even lived here for a few years around 1950. His exhibitions were received with great enthusiasm in those days.

In the past years, our auction house has sold many paintings by Lee Man Fong already. To give you an impression: in the last 10 years we sold ca. 90% of all paintings by Lee Man Fong that have been auctioned in Europe. This means Zeeuws Veilinghuis sold no less than 35 of his works!

All of this made us decide to offer the Dutch public a renewed introduction to Lee Man Fong by means of an exhibition. In addition, we hope this will help us gather more information for our book about Lee Man Fong’s Dutch period.
