Willem Dooijewaard was a real adventurer. Between 1913 and 1933 he went to many places in Asia, and saw things no other Westerner had seen before.

Willem Dooijewaard 'Karbouwengat'

Around 1920 he made this large pastel on paper: 'Karbouwengat' (Dutch) or 'Ngarai Sianok' (Indonesian). This place is also called the 'Grand Canyon' of Indonesia and can be found near Bukittingi, Sumatra. This pastel is the largest work by Dooijewaard that was ever at auction: 88 x 147 cm!
It will be auctioned on the 5th of June 2019.
Provenance: private collection, Spain.
