In October 2018 Zeeland Auctioneers held the exhibition'Lee Man Fong, back in the Netherlands after seventy years'

The exhibition was opened by the Ambassador of Indonesia,His Excellency I Gusti Agung Wesaka Puja.
During the opening of the exhibition
Lee Man Fong (1913-1988, also known as Lee Man-Fung), palace painter of President Sukarno, is very well known in South East Asia, but less famous in Europe. Many Europeans never heard of this great painter, even though he lived a few years in the Netherlands. Around 1950 he held several exhibitions here, which were, at that time, received very well by art critics.
We want to re-introduce Lee Man Fong to the European public by an exhibition, and later by a book about his Dutch period. Already many years we gather information about this period, but there are still many questions and puzzle pieces to be found. We hope that through this exhibition, we will receive more information about his stay here.
We auctioned many paintings by Lee Man Fong in the past.
To give an impression: the last 10 years 35 paintings were sold in Europe.
Zeeland Auctioneers sold 25 of these, and in December 2018
we will auction another four paintings!
