Our next auction of Indonesian paintings on the 11th of December 2013 contains a big work (135 x 290 cm!) by I Dewa Gde Raka Turas (1917-1993). Paintings of this artist are very rare on auctions.

Anak Agung Raka Turas was born in 1917 at Padangtegal, Ubud-Bali. In the beginning he was under the guidance of his father, A.A.Rai Plase, a well-known sculptor and wayang wayang painter.He was also a pupil of Bonnet and a member of “Pita Maha”. In 1948 Raka Turas began to teach the would-be painters of Peliatan and Ubud. Beside painting he was also a sculptor and dancer.
