19 November: Exclusive Items

We hereby present the seventh edition of our Exclusive Items auctions. Just like previous editions it contains a limited, eclectic mix of high quality lots.

Actually, almost all pieces of this auction are museum-worthy. However, we would like to highlight a few (see photos below):

  • The sculpture ‘Eliza’ by Theo Mackaay (granite, life-size)
  • Two of the best paintings from Reimond Kimpe’s oeuvre: ‘On the ferry from Hoedekenskerke to Terneuzen’ and ‘Jazz’
  • A necklace designed by Bert Nienhuis (design drawing in the Rijksmuseum collection)
  • Etruscan ceramics (once described as ‘magnificent’ by an expert from the Archaeological Institute in Leiden)
  • Five exceptional Chinese bowls, ‘mark and period’ Jiaqing, from a noble family
  • One of the best works from Lee Man Fong’s oeuvre: ‘Fortune and Longevity’
  • The painting ‘Javanese girl’ by Romualdo Locatelli (see cover of the catalogue)
  • As always: a beautiful selection of works by M.C. Escher

The catalogue is now online. The printed catalogue can be opened by clicking the cover.

This is a live auction with auctioneer, which starts at 1.30 PM.

19 November: The Idanna Pucci Collection

This collection contains important work by the first Western artist on Bali, W.O.J. Nieuwenkamp (1874-1950). The collection will be auctioned right after the ‘Exclusive Items’ lots.

Idanna Pucci is an Italian writer and documentary maker who lived in Bali for many years. She now lives alternately in Florence and New York. Nieuwenkamp lived in his villa in Fiesole, just above Florence, from 1926 until the end of his life in 1950. Thirty-eight years ago, Pucci met Nieuwenkamp’s children and grandchildren, who still lived in the villa. From then on, the world of W.O.J. Nieuwenkamp opened up to her and she started collecting his work. Nieuwenkamp was not only an artist, but also an explorer, art collector and ethnographer. All of this is beautifully described by Pucci in the printed catalogue.

What makes this auction unique, is that it is the first time that Nieuwenkamp’s paintings are being offered at auction. The art works depict Indonesian, Italian, Egyptian and Congolese scenes. In addition, more than thirty drawings with Indonesian scenes are also being auctioned. Pucci rightly states that Nieuwenkamp is the ‘missing link’ in many Indonesian Art collections.

The catalogue is now online. The printed catalogue can be opened by clicking the cover.
